ACT Masters Hockey and COVID-19

Along with all sports worldwide, and in every other aspect of our lives, Masters Hockey has been forced to make changes in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Your committee is working to ensure our membership is as safe a possible, especially as many of us fit the most “at risk” groups. The good thing is that the association will not lose anything: while we won’t collect fees, we won’t pay field hire, so your association will be well placed to continue as soon as the situation eases. The current state of affairs: Monday Night Hockey: After much discussion the ACT Masters Association has decided the final round of the current quarter, due to be played on 23 March will be abandoned. That said, Barton were consulted in the process of making this decision, have elected to play the final round. If you would like to play, ACT Masters will arrange field bookings. Please contact your team manager and let me know by 9.30am on Monday 23 March. Please follow the directions from Hockey ACT regarding social distancing. The latest guidelines can be found on ACT Hockey’s website. In forward planning we propose to miss the Easter and Anzac Day holidays, but will consider starting the second quarter from 30 March if conditions allow. Canberra Championships and LifeNight (Northside vs Southside vs Outside): This social comp due to be played over two weeks on 30 March and 6 April has been postponed until further notice. NSW over 55 championships have been cancelled Australian Championships planned for the Gold Coast in June-July have been postponed. No date has been suggested, but expectation is it will be as late in the year as possible. Players who have nominated for ACT teams will receive further information shortly. Thursday Afternoon Hockey Happy Hour was cancelled this afternoon. A decision will be made on a weekly basis and notified on our website and to participants by email. We will endeavour to keep you up to date on all aspects as measures from our lead sporting bodies, state and federal governments evolve. Leo Clarke ACT Masters Hockey |
